THE TALL SHIP RACES 2011 STARTS THIS WEEK IN IRELAND
50 Tall ships are expected this week end at Waterford in Ireland, next stop would be Greenock from the 9th to the 12th July a spectacle not to be missed, there is further information about the event in Scotland on a different post in this blog, photos of the tall ships when they visited Saint-Malo in 2006
SAILING SHIP "DUCHESSE ANNE" PRESERVED AT DUNKIRK
Built in 1901 as the GROSSHERZOGIN ELISABETH the "DUCHESSE ANNE" was saved from scrap in 1981 by the City of Dunkirk, today she is an exhibit at the Musee Portuaire at Dunkerque, she looks amazing, photos taken on the 22sd June 2011

TALL SHIP "JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO"
the T S JUAN SEBASTIAN DE ELCANO was built in Cadiz, Spain in 1927, she was named after the Spanish Explorer with the same name, captain of the last FERDINAND MAGELLAN voyage, he actually completed the first circumnavigation of the world because MAGELLAN was killed during the battle of Mactan in the Philippines in 1521, the ship is seen here in Lisbon in 2006 during the tall ships races

TALL SHIP POGORIA AT CHERBOURG
Back in May I was booked for a Cherbourg/Poole crossing with Brittany Ferries, exactly on the 20th, the T S POGORIA was in town and I was delighted to see her, here`s why

TALL SHIP "KATHLEEN AND MAY" A UNIQUE SHIP
Built in 1900 the schooner KATHLEEN & MAY is the last wooden triple-masted sailing schooner still in existance, she has been renovated to her original form and is a delight to watch, few photos taken on the 7th June 2011 when the ship visited Liverpool
